Sunset Cove Farm's Lesson Program

My name is Laurie Dryden and I am the instructor at Sunset Cove Farm. My goal is to help each rider to become a safe, secure and effective rider who is able to enjoy whatever horse activity he or she wishes to pursue. I focus on developing a balanced seat that can be used for jumping, dressage or western riding and a thinking rider who can handle any situation that may arise. I have over 35 years of riding experience and have taught for many years as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Helpful Information

Because the student's safety is my top priority, each student's lesson program is designed specifically for them with their experience, abilities and goals in mind. If a student does not have a horse of their own, the student may be able to ride one of our own horses.

It is recommended that all students start with private lessons. This allows me to asses a student's abilities without distraction and allows for lessons that are more productive. Very young students, generally those under six years old, will begin with 30-minute private lessons.

For older students and those ready to move on, 1-hour private lessons are the next step. As a rider progresses, he/she may be able to enter in either semi-private or group lessons.

All students must participate in at least one lesson per week. In addition to time in the saddle, all students receive instruction in grooming, tacking and other groundwork in and around horses.

Appropriate Riding Attire

Since the student’s safety is my top priority, the following guidelines for appropriate dress should be followed when riding at Sunset Cove Farm:

**ASTM/SEI APPROVED HELEMTS MUST BE WORN BY ALL RIDERS WHEN MOUNTED**

Proper footwear is required. Boots must have a hard sole and a 1/2" heel. Paddock boots are recommended.

Straight leg jeans may be used for beggining lessons. Low-rise jeans are not appropriate for riding. A student is always welcome to wear breeches or jodphurs.

Please bring coats if needed and gloves can be worn year-round.

Meet Miss Priss

Meet Miss Priss, a soon to be 25 year old Quarter Horse pony. Her registered name is Prissy Prospectus, but that name is bigger than the horse. She has been used at Sunset Cove Farm for lessons for students of all ages for the last 12 years including special needs students.
